MY EMERGENCE AS AKARIGBO OF REMO LAND IS GOD’S WILL, OBA BABATUNDE ADEWALE AJAYI
The new Akarigbo of Remo Land, His Royal Majesty, Oba
Babatunde Adewale Ajayi has described his emergence as the 19th
Akarigbo of Remo Land as the handiwork of God.
Oba Ajayi disclosed this in an exclusive chat with
selected journalists in his palatial Sagamu country home. The handsome monarch also
revealed that, he never dreamt of becoming the Akarigbo of Remo Land for once,
until providence brought him to the throne.
The paramount ruler of Remo land disclosed that,
‘apart from jokingly telling my wife that, I will marry another wife when I
become a king, I never dreamt of it. But, as it is now, God has turned what I
call a joke into a reality’.
Responding to questions on his wide acceptance by
all and sundry across Remo Land as soon as he was announced as the preferred candidate,
by the kingmakers among several other eminently qualified princes. This is unlike
the usual practice where there would be controversies and litigations, after
the emergence of a preferred candidate.
Oba Ajayi explained, ‘many people visited me when I
was at Ipebi and surprisingly they all testified of a positive wind of change
blowing across the community, since my emergence. Market men and women said
they were selling more than before. Some said there is a more peaceful
atmosphere in the community’.
‘One shocking encounter I had was with an old man of
over 90 years of age, who laid prostrate on the floor, rejoicing and saying
that he can now die peacefully because, according to him, he lived to see the
emergence of a descendant of the Torungbuwa ruling house ascending the throne
of Akarigbo of Remo Land, after many decades’, Oba Ajayi said.
Asked to comment on the process leading to his
emergence, Oba Adewale Aajayi stated that, ‘the kingmakers must be commended
for adopting a very transparent selection process, to the extent that, it is
very difficult for anyone to fault’.
This, according to the monarch explains the reason
why no controversy or litigation trailed his selection and subsequent
coronation as Akarigbo of Remo Land.
Oba Adewale Ajayi further promised to work for the
peace, unity and progress of Sagamu and the entire Remo nation, as a way of
reciprocating the love and wide acceptance he received from all stakeholders
since he assumed the throne of his forefathers.
