FORMER OGUN STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR, SENATOR GBENGA KAKA FORMALLY DECLARES GOVERNORSHIP INTENTION

A
former deputy governor of Ogun State during the administration of Aremo
Olusegun Oshoba and one-time Senator of the federal republic of Nigeria,
Senator Gbenga Kaka has formally declare his governorship intention to govern
Ogun State, on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC come
2019.
Senator Kaka, whose intention has been a subject of
rumour for sometime has now formally confirmed his interest in Ogun State’s
Number One job, at the expiration of the second term in office of the
incumbent, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in May 2019.
The gubernatorial hopeful, in company of hundreds of
his supporters from across the state recently stormed the state secretariat of
the APC in Abeokuta to formally intimate the leadership of the party at the
state about his intention.
Speaking at the declaration event, Senator Kaka stressed
the need for the progressives across Ogun State to work together as a team,
against the schemes of the opposition PDP, as a way of ensuring that the ruling
party retains the state government post May 29.
‘Having observed the political trend in our state,
vis a vis all the aspirants jostling to become our party’s flagbearer in 2019,
I have decided to join the gubernatorial race, with the confidence that I am
fit and qualified to govern Ogun State in 2019’.
Kaka added that, ‘when I made up my mind to run for
the governorship of our state in October 2017, my first point of call was the
office of our dynamic governor, His Excellency, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. I made
sure he was the first person I informed, before mentioning it to any other
person’.

He noted that, despite making up his mind a long
time ago, he desisted from campaigning or pasting posters around the state, but
waited to conclude necessary consultations with the party hierarchy in the
state before going public with his intention.
Kaka also sought the permission and blessing of the
leadership of the party at the state level for him to commence a state-wide governorship
campaign, towards the forthcoming party’s primaries later in the year.
Responding on behalf of the state leadership of the
party, Chief Derin Odebiyi, state chairman of the party assured Senator Kaka
and his team of level playing field for all aspirants on the party’s platform.
He stressed that, the state leadership will do all within its powers, as good referees, to ensure that the process leading to the emergence of the party's candidate is credible.
Senatorial party leaders across the Ogun East, West and Central as well as members of the Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka- ASK Campaign group across Ogun State witnessed the epoch-making event.
