OGUN GUBER: NIGERIA’S VICE PRESIEDENT, PROF YEMI OSHINABJO, TWO FORMER GOVERNORS, OTHERS UNITE AGAINST AMOSUN’S APM
Few hours to the 2019
governorship and houses of assembly elections in Nigeria, many odds seems to be
gathering against the desire of the incumbent governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle
Amosun to install his adopted APM candidate, Abdul Kabir as the next governor
of Ogun State.
At the last count, about six political heavy weights across Ogun State have
jettisoned party interests and personal ambition in what has been described as
a strategic effort to liberate Ogun State from Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s undemocratic
and dictatorial tendencies.
Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Oshinbajo, from Ikenne Remo Ogun
State is leading a major political onslaught against Governor Ibikunle Amosun and
his newly adopted party, APM. Oshinbajo has not hidden his support for APC’s
candidate, Dapo Abiodun as he has led the campaign tour of the APC candidate
across major wards and local governments of Ogun State, in recent times.
Similarly, two former governors of Ogun State, Egba born Aremo Olusegun
Oshoba who also doubles as the APC leader in the State and his successor in
office, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, a PDP chieftain and DG of Atiku Presidential Campaign
has also thrown his weight behind the APC candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun in tomorrow’s
governorship poll.
OGD, as popularly called recently issued a statement directing his
followers and supporters across Ogun State to mobilize and vote for the
candidate of the ruling APC, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in the collective interest of
Ogun State.
Other political heavy weights in Ogun State who have also joined forces
with Oshinbajo and the two former governors include two former deputy governors
in the State, Senator Gbenga Kaka from Ijebu Igbo and Alh Salmot Badru from
Yewa axis of the State.
Ordinarily, tomorrow’s governorship election should have been a walk-over
for any candidate supported by the incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun but,
his failure to secure APC ticket for his preferred candidate and his open support
for another candidate other than that of his party has pitched the governor
against major political interests in and out of the State.
While there has been alignments and realignments of political groups in the
State, with some adopting Amosun’s candidate, Akinlade, many still believe that
the alignments are too little and negligible to deliver victory for Amosun’s
camp, compared to the political influence and sagacity of the forces against
him and his candidate APM candidate.
